That's an unfair comment Ian - the mast was erected by a professional firm who abandoned the job when 3/4 high or so in early May. They also managed to put one section up twisted and jury-rigged a very crude 'cross tree' which was useless. The mast was part-completed Robin and Norman, with help from Peter & Jaap and direction from Dick on the deck. It worked well, unlike the generators! The final section was added the first week in July by the intrepid Caroline crew and the signal on 1187 was perfect on a full 50KW.
Some tampering with the guy cables accelerated its collapse in October.
No one should ignore the bravery of the boys (and they were but boys in those days!) who shinned up the part-finished triangular one to get Caroline on air on two frequencies simultaneously. (It's all told in the Caroline Bible, in the gospel according to Saint Norman.)
