Don't want to open a can of worms, but in 1970,I did a bit of pirating with my pal Bob who built our transmitter. We were not good at it. Very soon we started meeting other pirates who were the strangest young men I have ever encountered. The polite term may be ' socially inadequate '.
Had these youths got together with standardised equipment, chosen a shared frequency and used this at agreed times they could have had, at least to a degree, a reliable service where the regularly changing location may have hampered the action of the pirate hunters Garlick and Gotts.
But instead they picked feuds with each other, cut down aerials, jammed each others signals and hurled on air insults back and forth.
Then Garry starts his board and all these misfits, now old men, congregate there and start to behave just as they did so long ago.
My error was to assume that as Caroline is the last connection to the pirate era that they obsess about, they might enjoy some factual information from someone who knows what is happening.
But soon, not entirely but to a high degree, they turned on me. I remember one nutter saying ' hah, we flushed him out '.
So now even if I wished to engage with them and even though Caroline is a major topic for their discussions, I am barred from posting.
But to answer your question, I do read the comments but take absolutely no notice of the opinions put forward.
I can do without the loony contingent who say that LW is the way forward or DRM or that I don't need the Orford masts as he has a Tesla aerial that fits in a shoe box. Or the one who says he was in the Battlefield division of BFBS. There was no such thing of course.
As for dear Mike Simmonds he is impossible to dislike, but if you handed him 100 sticks he would get the wrong end of each one.
Don't even get me started on John England/Caroline Brooks/Mervyn Hagger.
PM.
Like most people on here I do read the GS legend forum for any pearls of wisdom. One poster, you can probably guess who, was asked to expand on a comment about the board becoming unnecessary if people did not post their opinions. He wrote;
Peoples Ideas,and opinions, perhaps Peter does read the radio media boards, and takes away on occaisions small amount of info.
Obviously I have retained the original (mis) spelling.
So the question for PM is do you use the discussion and ideas that emerge from the board in question? What are your key takeaways from reading that board!
