We cannot be certain that human caused global warming is real, or that it will dominate other influences, especially solar variability. But it may well be real. We cannot take the chance that it is false.
1. It cannot possibly be a good thing to dump huge quantities of wastes, solid, liquid, gas, into the environment. Hence, all reasonable means to reduce pollution should be pursued. That is pure common sense.
2. We cannot afford to be wrong on this one. Hence, regardless of doubts on AGM, we must proceed as if it were true. We must rapidly switch over to solar energy, reduce energy usage, etc., by all reasonable means.
3. We are already doing pretty much what the AGW exponents advocate. More than 75% of all new power generation is Solar. HOWEVER, and this is the big issue here, the installed generation capacity is HUGE. At any possible rate of construction, it will take decades for Solar generation to grow up to 50% of capacity. I do not foresee Solar to become the dominant energy source in less than 40 years. Furthermore, Solar electric generating capacity must grow to take over for fossil fuels. There are no quick fixes to problems of such magnitude.
4. As we implement new policies to deal with AGW, we must refrain from doing things that will cause immediate massive human suffering. For example: Many persons, especially in the underdeveloped nations, will literally DIE FROM STARVATION if deprived of fertilizer and fuel used to grow their crops. Shipping them sufficient food from surpluses is impossible.
5. We must remain cool and rational in our thinking. Panic will not help. The job ahead is huge. It will take decades. There is absolutely no quick fix. We need to take the short term predictions of catastrophe with skepticism, especially since many of the most radical predictions have failed. Foolish ideas like certain politician have proposed for a 12-year program to solve the problem are simply impossible. Reason must rule all of our decisions.
6. We must reject idiocy like "carbon credits", "solar power satellites", proposals such as perpetual motion machines, etc. We don't have the time or resources to deal with such nonsense. Anybody who thinks that such stupidity will help belongs in a mental institution.
7. We must retain, in the back of our minds, the fact that AGW has not been established with certitude, and that models and events may alter our conclusions and especially our time frames. In particular, AGW is not "Settled Science" because there is no such thing.
8. We need to implement all practical Solar energy technologies. In particular, a huge Solar energy modality has been totally neglected: the use of the Ocean Thermal Gradient. This one technology alone has a practical limit equal to the rest of Solar energy technologies combined.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_thermal_energy_conversion
9. We must recognize that the entire environmental issue is primarily a result of human overpopulation. Unless birth rates are curtailed much further, Earth is doomed regardless of climate issues. Fortunately, this is well underway, but we need to work to accelerate birth rate reductions.
