SITES: Games will be played at Mickey Vernon Park, 7th & Market Sts., Marcus Hook.PARTICIPATING TEAMS: The Coed bracket will include 9teams and Men’s Slow Pitch 19 teams. FORMAT: 2 game guarantee for Men’s Bracket, 2 game guarantee for the Coed Bracket
PAIRINGS: The first-round pairings will be made at a meeting Tues Aug 7th at Mickey Vernon Park at 7:00pm. Coed and Men’s Slow Pitch brackets will be compiled based on last year's tournament results. Coed will have two seeds and Men’s will have 6 seeds. The brackets will be completed at the meeting by a blind draw. TOURNAMENT SANCTION: The Men’s and Coed divisions are sanctioned by USA softball played under usa rules with noted exceptions. Please review the following Points of Emphasis with the USA Men’s Slow Pitch players: • 6 ft. to 10 ft. arc • Umpires will look for pitch that travels between the front shoulder and back knee. • Umpires will “call the plate” not where player stands in batter’s box . Ball hits the mat it's a strike • With the lower arc - “deep” will not be relevant. Lower 6 ft. pitch may travel to catcher’s glove. A 10 ft. pitch is likely to fall no further than a foot or so behind home plate • Umpires will indicate an illegal pitch verbally and by holding their left arm straight out. • Third strike out is a dead ball • You can bat as many as 12 in the lineup. 10 positions, an EP and an EH. • A Courtesy Runner may be used once per inning. In Coed you may run a male for a male and female for a female once per inning. • No bunting or stealing allowed. • Most importantly, be courteous to the umpires. We cannot enjoy this recreational activity without them. ENTRY FEE: $225. Checks to be made out to Marcus hook softball. All proceeds after tournament expenses will be donated to the American cancer society. PRIZES: Winning teams will receive championship jacket and a paid birth to Virginia Beach in Sept. .T-SHIRTS: t shirts will be sold for $15 . All money after expenses will also be donated to American cancer society. ROSTERS: In both divisions, Coed and Men’s Slow, teams must be from a registered league either from SNA, USA or USSA. Rosters will be 20 players for men's, 24 players for coed. Men’s and Coed will be allowed 4 pick-up players from a registered league. No travel only player. Coed will be allowed 2 men and 2 women players. Anyone caught using an illegal player not on their roster will forfeit out of the tournament.
ROSTER ENFORCEMENT: All participating players are expected to have driver's licenses or other forms of identification in their possession. STARTING THE GAME: A coin flip will determine the home team. The last undefeated team will be home in the championship game then a coin-flip in the ‘IF” game. Teams may start and finish the game with nine players and add late arrivals at the bottom of the lineup. If a team cannot complete with the same number of players in the lineup due to an ejection, a forfeit will be declared. Be ready to take the field one half-hour prior to game time. Give yourself enough time to have your bat tested prior to your first game and on championship night. Forfeit is at game time. PROTESTS, RULES DISPUTES: The tournament director will rule upon all eligibility and rules disputes immediately. BASE PATHS, PITCHING MOUND: Bases will be 70 feet for Men and Coed Slow Pitch. The slow pitch mound is 53 feet from home plate. GAME BALLS: The official ball is the Dudley Thunder ZN. In Coed the women will hit a 52/300 11inch ball. One new and one back up ball will be provided to start the game. Competing teams must chase their foul balls. Game balls from early-round games will be used as backup balls in later rounds. BATS: All bats must be approved by the ASA, NSA or SNA or USSSA. Men’s Coed bats must be aluminum. All teams should arrive at the bat testing station 45 minutes prior to your first game. A PLAYER USING AN ILLEGAL BAT WILL BE SUSPENDED FROM THE 2018 AND 2019 TOURNAMENTS. There is a fee of $2 for each bat tested All proceeds go directly to the American Cancer Society. SPEED-UP RULES: There are several: 1)The 10-run rule will be in effect for all games. 20 after 3, 15 after 4, 10 after 5.2) Extra-inning games will be decided by the international tiebreaker procedure. At the end of the seventh inning, the visiting team will start the eighth with the person who made the last out in the seventh on second base with no outs and the game will continue from that point. The home team will begin the bottom of the eighth in the same fashion. This procedure will continue each inning until a winner is determined. 3) No infield balls will be permitted and only one warm-up pitch per inning. The ball always goes right back to the pitcher. Ball two will be called on ALL violations. PITCHING STYLE: Men's Slow Pitch and Coed will be 6 -10 ft arc. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: No alcoholic beverages are permitted within the complex. Violators are subject to steep fines at most locations and suspension from the tournament. Anyone associated with a team found with alcohol at the tournament site will be suspended and possibly fined up to $1,000 KEEPING SCORE: The scores must be reported to tournament director Andy ruhf and must be 100% accurate . WHAT IF IT RAINS?: We will make every effort to play our games as scheduled. However, if weather conditions are too bad, field assignments and game times may change. Rainouts and changes will be posted on the following message board marcushooksoftballnation.com TAUNTING and FIGHTING: Taunting will not be tolerated. Also, any player initiating physical contact may be ejected from the tournament. Any fights involving more than one player from the same team will cause the entire roster and league to be banned from the 2018and 2019 tournaments.
