So he was at St Cuthberts 18 years and has a street named after him , which is nice. We also have Marr Rd, Witty Ave etc named after Clergy.
BUT poor Mr Reyrolle who had an Electrical Engineering Co in the town and it created employment for nearly 100 yrs has nothing with his name on it in the town.
Mr Leslie has Leslie Ave, Mr Palmer has Palmer Cres,Mr White has Whites Gardens etc but nothing for Reyrolle.
People living on the new housing Estates in Hebburn have no idea that Reyrolles once stood there.
I complained to a Councillor about this but its a waste of time. South Shields dominate the council. I was told that 80% of all the council taxes are spent on Shields. Hebburn & Jarrow have to share the paltry 20%.
