Some readers may remember this rather poor quality photo taken from Mike Ellison's album. It shows a gathering of Clegwell boys at summer camp, Keswick in 1952. Our family have just spent our Christmas in a lovely little farm cottage near Ambleside and yesterday I decided to go find that camp site (after 65 years.
It was a little disappointing but I got the NOW shot with a low sun immediately to the front. The only clue for orientation was the background mountain contours (clearly to be seen in the THEN shot) but this is almost totally washed out on the NOW shot. The field is still largely unbuilt over but covered with tree scrub. The area is now used by local Army Cadets.
