Grange Rd Station Hotel, Caledonian St etc demolition
Posted by mac cummings on January 8, 2018, 10:20 am
The threads following Norman Jarrow Banner pic have made me revisit the date
A little research suggests that Caledonian St etc and that area of Grange road were cleared in 1955 not 1958 as I first suggested. So the pic was 51-55. Anyone agree?
My memory of the demolition is that the Civil Defence and auxiliary fire brigade (with green goddesses) held an exercise when I was about 11/12 and set fire to houses to test response capabilities.
I also recall that some of the fires got out of hand...or is it my imagination?
Anyway watching it was great fun!
