1901 census lists James Stephenson Noble as foreman cart-man in a scrap iron business in Gateshead.
( Q ) Where would I need to look for a scrap iron business in Gateshead around that time, that may have employed J S N? and what would have been the duties of a foreman cart- man ?
His marriage records list him as a mariner he ' it is said' worked on a ship to San Francisco 1906 ( The San Francisco Earthquake took place on the 18th April 1906 ) which begs a big question.
1911 census shows his wife as " married " not as a widow living with her father, so , where was James? There is a recored on ancestry of aJames Noble ( no middle name) sailing to New York on the 11th Much 1905 leaving from Southampton on a ship called the St Louis that would make his date of birth about 1878. lots of pieces of this jigsaw but not enough to complete the picture, did he 'jump ship'
I am ever hopeful and grateful for any links.
It makes interesting reading though.?
