MCINTYRE STREET: Hebburn Quay. Situated east of Caledonian Street and west of Hedley
Street, and bordered by Lyon Street on the north and Argyle Street on the south.
Built in or before 1891. Later built over by Shinwell Court - part of the Argyle Street flats.
In 1850, this was arable land and ‘Coal Pit’, occupied by John Redhead, and leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Possibly, the Ship: John McIntyre, built 1863, at Howden, by Palmer; named after John McIntyre of Hebburn Hall, who was part of the building Committee. He also donated much money to local churches.
