I called the Government Dept responsible for issuing the cards and explained the problem, the person I spoke to was actually sitting in an office Newcastle side of the Tyne Bridge. Anyway, he said that my details had not been accessed. I explained my problem, the chap said that the company in question had actually covered themselves as they had given me advice, albeit almost at the end of the conversation, where I could obtain the card for free. New cards are on the way to me, however I am a little bit concerned that details such as DOB, home address, NI no's etc had been given before realising that it was not a Government official that I was speaking to. I am even more curious as to how this agency knew my card was due for renewal at the end of this month as my original application had been made via the Government and not via another agency?
A word of warning to everyone if you should receive an email about your E111 card please check that it is from the Government and not an agency who require payment for the service. By the way if you Google EHIC-E111 Renewal, this agency's details appear before the Government site?
