Re: Streets of Hebburn ~ Oak Street…
Barry, I have been communicating with Bill Lee about a family genealogy report he sent me. I had asked him for a copy of a picture that was enclosed in his report. Rather than send me an electronic file he sent me a copy of the original photo. I have just scanned it, of which, I've attached. Names will come later as Bill has me confused with some of the names. The interesting part about it is the photo was taken at 17 Oak St. Hebburn Colliery, WW1 commemorative. One of the people shown is John George Lee (rear left) who was killed in 1937 in a roof fall at the Rising Sun Mine. Body was never recovered. Can 17 Oak St be located on a map? The map you show is probably the 2nd build of the street as the first was demolished in 1939. The picture was taken pre-1937.
