Re: William Jobling Memorial in Jarrow
After Jobling was gibbeted, certain individuals made a living taking sightseers out in their rowing boats to view the spectacle. It became a source of annoyance to the powers that be. I have always suspected ( but without any proof) that the removal of Jobling's body was done with the covert approval of the authorities.
With regard to the oldest pub in Jarrow - how about the Robin Hood or the Lord Nelson?
