Prince Consort Rd Industrial estate started when Newcastle Shipbuilding Company built a Platers Shed on that land 1920.On the riverside infront they created extra slipways to add to the ones that Huntleys used in earlier years.Then two years later they went bust.
The Platers shed stood empty for a few years then the Reay Gear Works in Gateshead bought it in 1925 and created employment. Later it was sold to George Angus Gears and later again bought by RW Transmissions.
I worked for RWT 1965 to 1971.They closed in the late 70s and that land is now a housing estate.
