I rang Ray Hall last night after he'd emailed me for Lilian's email address and had a nice chat with him. I remembered him from when I was a little lad and he was a big lad in his teens working in the shipyard. My mates Lawrence Morton and David Thackeray lived either side of the Hall's at 66 Windermere Crescent in the 1950s.
Ray was into gardening in those days, probably after coming from the Newtown with backyards. I remember going with Ray to the closed down allotments near the Quarry at the east of the Park. We were scouring the are looking for plants that had self seeded. Lupins was one plant we found for his garden.
I'd always wondered what happened to him. He had time for us kids and was a lovely man so I was so pleased to talk to him and hear that he is ok and a board regular visitor.
I hope you become a regular from NZ Linda. Its a great way to keep intouch with your local roots.
