Very interesting James. I was very slightly appalled by what now looks like the very sad remains of one of the most famous locomotives. She looks like she has lost a lot of original parts but not only that. Take a look at the many drawings that can be found of this loco and you will hardly find any two that match in detail. There are differences in boiler design, position of smoke stack, set up of steam cylinders and a lot more besides.
The Discovery Museum has many exhibits that were originally on display at the Exhibition and Science Museum on the edge of the town moor (including Turbinia). I wonder what happened to the other old locomotive the was on display there which I saw as a child. I was always told by my uncle Jim that it was the Puffing Billy.
