Then through bits of Newcastle. How traffic flows have changed! It really is a beautiful city and if I ever returned to the NE I'd certainly go for a quayside apartment. James' recent pics reminded me of the beauty of the bridges and today's Quayside.
Then along the felling by-pass to experience Heworth Rdbt. Worked well!
Down past Bill Quay thro Hebburn and thence Jarrow and along the low road and riverside to S Shields.
Ive got to say that Shields looks tatty. Partic in the town itself.
Along the front. The Haven is souless and I spent many happy days there when all we had was the tank defences to play on or the Groyne or T to fish from. What have they done to it?
The properties along the south beach are showing their age (The Rattler) and the strange concrete monstrosity of a walkway behind the new Minchella's is out of place but the inland side of the road looks OK .
But I did have a lovely Ice Cream. After having discovered that the branch at the Nook had gone we doubled back.
Gypsys Green is truly awful. The pub looks derelict. But the beach of course is lovely.
And the Lees are a treasure.
But you know....It is still home and I love it all.
I'm proud of where I was born (Jarrow). I'm very fortunate and thankful to my grandfathers who mined (and died) to give me the life I have.
