Note: Although maps show this street as ‘Redhead Terrace, Hebburn regular, Lilian Flack,
remembers a nameplate on this building that read: ‘Readhead Terrace.’
Lilian, I agree that Pricilla’s grandparents probably named their home ‘Bede House’ because of its proximity to the Bede Metal Works, and so the post would arrive at the correct address.
I suppose that by this date, being the only house on the block, Quality Row as an address wouldn’t have the same pull it once had, and would only confuse the postal workers.
