Re: St Kildas boxing club Jarrow.
jUST TO STRAIGHTEN a couple of things:- Ralphy Henley and Matty HENLEY were brothers, Ralphy being the eldest. David Henley is Ralphy's son and I'm rather ashamed to admit it, David's Godfather. I've not seen them in many a long year. Ralphy will be I guess 86 years old now & neither of us make long journies now. Matty was Davids' Uncle but Passed Away a few years ago. I remember Matty stripping off his shirt one day and display his "Back" all gouged where he said had been done while "Riding the belt" in Follonsby Pit. Seemingly the belt was empty and pulled taunt which made it closer to the roof, with Matty on it he managed to peel the skin off his back.
Now, GERARD HENLEY was a relation of Ralphy and all 3 of us were Pigeon Men, flying in East Hebburn Flying Club. Gerard lived with his parents firstly in Auckland Rd in the first house right next to the Colliery Board playground wall, Nr 2 I think opposite Tommy Lillico's Barbers Shop. They then moved to the LHS of Ralph St.
