My uncle Jim Gardner was from Manchester and he was a Petty Officer on HMS Victorious, billetted in Walker awaiting its completion. The lady who took him in was my aunty Peggy who had been widowed 2 yrs earlier with two children. They fell in love and married. Her oldest son Don was in the RAF Police all his working life and an Investigator. One time he was investigating a case in Germany and was allocated an elderly interpreter. It turned out the Interpreter had been in the Luftwaffe and had bombed Newcastle at the time Don was a little lad in Walker. I found that an amazing coincidence.
