My mother's second marriage in 1945 was to Harold Siddle who lived there with his mother and two brothers. My later regular visits were to take two of my very young half brothers in a double pushchair from 21 Frederick Street to see their grandmother.
It is also very appropriate at this time to remember Ronald George Siddle, who also lived at No.11 as he was the only Jarrow fatal casualty of the Korean War. I would say that he must have been one of the best looking lads in Jarrow and would have been greatly mourned by many a would be sweetheart of those times. I feel sure that I put up a photo on this board of him taken with a friend, some time ago.
He has now been lying in Pusan Military Cemetery for some 65 years and missed the life he might have had...I often wonder about the sad waste of human lives in pointless wars.
RIP Ronnie Siddle...we will remember you and that little house in Palmer Street, to which you never returned.
