Re: If you lived in the Quay 1897-1907 what School ?
My grandfather was born about 1910 and lived in Parliament St, he attended the Newtown school. Told me of the time a male teacher was hitting a boy in the classroom my granda ran from the school scaling the wall, over the bridge to the lads house and told his mother, said she beat my granda back to the school and he ran back into the classroom just in time to see her battering the teacher and winning, can't help but think the teacher had gone over the top for my granda to take such action as it would have been a usual thing to see a teacher using physical punishment, bet he thought twice after that day.
