Re: For Margaret McDonald
I have to admit I do not go to The Word at all. Many years ago I used to go downstairs in the old library and got amazing help from the librarians then Keith and Doris, later Anne Sharp. They were all gone by the time the department was brought upstairs into the reference library where, as far as I could tell, the person in charge had no or very little knowledge of local history and no-one seemed to know where or what the previous material was. I gave up. Then it all moved to The Word. So learning from others, like yourself, who go and are disappointed I haven’t bothered.
I was given a copy of Hebburn Absent Voters list because I am still researching WW1 soldiers to go on the ‘South Tyneside Remembers’ website.
I can only find 2 CAMPBELLs. Colin CAMPBELL, 20 Park Road,751236 Gnr., R.F.A. and James CAMPBELL, 44 Victoria Road 40760 Cpl., N.F. Maybe your uncle wasn’t really interested in voting. If we could only prove he had an affiliation with St Andrew’s church he would be the man named there. But, like you are finding, the proof doesn’t seem to be available. I am so sorry.
