Although you and other 'leavers' can continue to jeer even as you see the smoke coming towards you, sadly you will not heed the warning until the fire burns your backside.
As a former young apprentice I adopted Hebburn as my home for many years until hard work and a spot of good fortune led me to having my own company abroad. Now retired I have homes in Australia and France from where I return to the north-east whenever a spot of nostalgia overwhelms me.
From an outside perspective I, along with all my ex-pat friends, cannot believe what is happening in the UK just now.
