A bit like Keith's experience, I remember serving a one year unaccompanied tour of Baharain. The RAF was based on the smaller island of Muharraq and as I walked by a steel fenced area next to the new accommodation block being built, I felt very much at home when I spotted some electrical equipment with a name plate....A. Reyrolle & Co., Hebburn.
I am still waiting for someone to come up with a photo of the Winding Shop during early 1940s. My mother worked in there at that time. Her boss was called Matthews.
