Re: Lack of heating and hot water
Your tale reminded me of my days in the lab at Reyrolles. I was a qualified electrical engineer and rewired our first house in Gateshead, putting in 13A ring mains to replace 5 and 15 amp sockets. I made up a fuse box with Reyrolle Pullcap fuses and borrowed a Megger from work to test all the circuitry.
The funny thing was that if a fuse blew in the lab, we had to get an electrician to come and replace it!
Modern regulations are much more stringent and nobody is allowed to do any house wiring without the necessary certificates and distribution boards are now fitted with circuit breakers instead of fuses.
I feel really old when I recall how transistors were only just making an appearance in our National Certificate syllabus at Hebburn Tech and computers filled rooms. PCs weren't around then either.
