I still have my Geordie twang despite living away for most of my life.
I have learned to understand if not speak some of the accents hereabouts. Those around the Leicestershire,South Derbyshire, Warks borders are quite similar.
The accent in Swad is quite special. Some older folk in a small town called Gresley can be hard to understand at first. And some folks born in a North Warks village called Warton have an almost impenetrable accent.
I love accents. Do you remember the days when one could "place" a person by accent along the Tyne. Shields/Jarrow/Hebburn/Bill Quay/Felling/Gateshead.
It is almost impossible today with children having a homogenous accent derived from their exposure to US TV and You Tube. My 4yo G'daughter rourinely uses american word....it was Rooster the other day. It'll be faucet next!!
