I did a few quick calculations to give the following estimates:
Clegwell 200 pupils crossing threshold for 273 days of school, per year = threshold crossed 54,600 times per year.
School open for about 70 years = threshold crossed 3,822,000 times. NEARLY 4 MILLION.
Shipyard opened 1853, but the bottom gate was built in or before 1861.and used up until the 1980s - about 120 years.
Being cautiously moderate, we can times that by 1000 men, using the same low amount of working days as the school (273 per year), gives 32,760,000 workers across the threshold in that time. 32 MILLION.
Although, the building at Coleridge Square, that used to be Clegwell is still being run as a school, alas, I think it will be long gone before it has a chance to match the 32 million plus 'threshold crossed' record held by the bottom gate of Leslie's shipyard.
