Hebburn and South Shields Ferries

In 1871 Samuel CORSIE lived in Prince Consort Road and was described as Station Master. In 1881 he lived in Hood Street and described the same (8 CORSIE family members, 5 different spellings on same transcription). In 1891, on his son Hugh’s marriage certificate, his occupation is shown as Station Master, Tyne General Ferry Co. 1901 he lived 15 Eglesfield Road, South Shields and is recorded as Ferry Station Master Harbour. Would like to know about the Tyne General Ferry Co and what his duties would be.
