Good old Thomas Ethelbert Aldred Acum. Fine man Baz who put me on a steady course for good A level English results.
I always remember him marking the word "impitent" in one of my essays and explaining carefully that it should have been "impudent". Not the way local folks said it! But he did in kindly.
When you talk about pronounciation have you ever noticed the we Tynesiders regularly use the glottal stop in words like "twenty" making is sound like twen'y. My 4 yo granddaughter mimics me and gets it so right.
