I know what you mean. Even though Redhead Terrace was officially renamed Hilda Terrace in 1895, it looks like the Council kept using the old name on maps, and officially in the Council minutes. Even some local folk called it by the old name, Redhead Terrace.
Yes, many locals used terms that weren’t official: The Low Road’, ‘The High Road’, King Street, Queen Street and of course, Minto Street. Many of these streets were not officially named, which was quite common in those far-off days of the twenties and beyond, when towns were still developing.
And, many of us still say, ‘The Wooden Bridge’ even though this term is obsolete.
