Life was tough early 1900s

When I lived in Grasmere Rd in the 1950s,our neighbours across the back (in Coniston Ave) were the Trotter family from Hebburn Colliery.The dad was Jonty Trotter.They had 3 daughters June, Anne & Audrey.
Years ago their daughter June Day in Cramlington sent me some old photos for my website. This one below is of her Granda Gaffin who lost both of his legs in an accident on the railway lines. Here he is on the photo wearing his two wooden legs.
