From my reckoning, the road sign seems to say, Warning: 1,340 yds, next left, low bridge, 13 feet.
Checking Google Street map, one can see that the distance from the yellow square (following map), on Mill Lane, where Stan, Winnie and son Raymond Forster were located with their bicycle, in abt. 1957-58, is about near enough 1,340 yards (1.225296 Kilometers, or, 3/4 of a mile) from the bridge, at the orange square.
The 1958 map shows that Lukes Lane came straight out onto Leam Lane, whereas today, it comes out onto Mill Lane:
