I agree - assuming the lady was in a normal mental state - it would have been so easy for her to have replied to you civilly, with a simple, ‘No thank you’.
The UK has large areas filled with people with different outlooks. Sometimes when a person from one area goes to another area in the UK there is often a clash due to different customs.
Being nice, although seen by us as a nice quality, is seen by some as a weakness, though this has never put me off trying my best whenever I can help… if someone’s rude, I just try to shrug it off and go about my business.
I’ve been to places where I’ve asked people in the street for directions and been totally ignored… then again, I’ve been to places where people have literally gone out of their way to be helpful – how good’s that?
Lilian, I agree, people are mostly good and helpful.
