I paid Income Tax and National Insurance from the time I left school at 16 until I retired at 65 and my Retirement Pension is way behind that of many other countries. The extra perks that Don mentioned are just a drop in the ocean to try and appease us old people who should be grateful for any hand-outs that are so condescendingly awarded to us.
When I was diagnosed with COPD, I was TOO OLD to be able to claim Disability Living Allowance. Where is the logic in that? Being old should be a part of the qualifying criteria for getting assistance, not a bar to it.
