Llyn , just to reiterate , you can use an old PC with XP or Windows 7 on so you can run your older programs on , I do , I call them "stand alones". You dont connect them to the internet and they work for years and years. Because XP or Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft and in Jan 2020 Windows 7 will no longer be supported. Were all forced to run Windows 10 .There will still be updates and service packs available making it secure for use on the internet [Windows10]. You just dont use an out of date operating system when online .ie XP ,Vista and after Jan next year Windows 7. Just to add , Microsoft will be dropping support for Windows 8 & 8.1 in Jan 2023 and for Windows 10 Oct 2025.
