Re: High Lane Row Methodist Sunday School Banner
That is a great piece of embroidery, Stewart, and will be of interest to Bill Lee who is the custodian of the main Hebburn Colliery PM Banner that was used at the head of Anniversary Processions way back in the good old days. Here is a photo I took of him and the banner at his home a few years ago. I often wonder what happened to our Hebburn Colliery School Street Methodist banner.
The other curiosity...a shield of unknown provenance which I won on eBay a few years ago is a bit of a puzzle. The top area I believe to be an early 'original' (pre Hawthorne) and probably the header to a rectangular notice board or maybe a company list of holders of some office or other...we will never know unless someone recognises it from the past. It seems to have subsequently been cut down to the shape of a sail? and then the ship painting applied.
