It is wonderful to have contact with a descendant of the great Hebburn man, George Edmunds.
I’d like you to know that there are still folk in Hebburn that remember your great-great-great-grandfather, George Edmunds, and he has been mentioned on the message board with much pride over the years.
George is mentioned in the book, The Streets of Hebburn, which is free to view on the Hebburn Archives, here: http://hebburnarchives.info/
Also, old messages relating to George Edmunds can be viewed on the Hebburn Message Archives, here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KCrhxxOQuyFd6kRpS-PnCESrhP3WCTwF/view

Ian, you mentioned George’s son, your great-great-grandfather, Thomas Edmunds; his son, Oscar Edmunds, married at Jarrow in 1909 to Mary Agnes Cummings, and I mention that, because we have an Administrator on the message board, named Mac Cummings, that is also from Jarrow – it’s a small world.
It is believed that Edmund Street, Hebburn was named after Saint Edmund; George’s surname was ‘Edmunds’, though he did help at Council meetings, where his wisdom and long memory was revered, so he easily deserved a street named after him.
Ian, we had heard a few years ago that there was possibly a video of George’s funeral, and now to hear that you actually have a copy is so exciting! Is it possible for you to upload it onto the message board, or to somewhere that we can view it from the message board? Or even get a copy to us via DVD? There are so many folk eager to view it, and I’m sure everyone of us will be deeply touch by its contents. Fantastic!
Cheers and thank you for contacting the message board,
