It didnít matter until people started buying cars. However you now have usually a minimum of 2 cars per house. One for parents the other for an offspring.
Itís rare for there to be a single car, usually retired folk or singles.
On some estates, the places are packed with cars. Some houses have Dads, mums and maybe two or more kids cars. Only one garage, if itís not been converted into a room.
I cycled past two new estates today one Harrogate the other Knaresborough where the only have a garage and short drive and the gap between the houses is about 3-4 feet.
There is another estate being built on the old Harrogate waterworks site off the Dutchy area ( top ish end of the Market) which are reasonably spaced out, But Tight for the money you pay.
One thing, as yet I have not heard of anyone doing as in London, extending down below ground. One or two have come close where house is on sloping ground.
