Hello John, |
Yeah, there are young taxi drivers that have been in more Hebburn streets than many senior folk that have lived there all their lives. Also, some people have larger family groups, or are more gregarious with wider social groups - hence they visit more streets.
LUKES LANE ESTATE: Accessed via Campbell Park Road and then Marine Drive.
Lukes Lane was built to re-house people from streets in the Colliery and the Quay areas which were demolished in the 1960s. Different parts of the Estate were built between 1964 and 1967.
It consists of: Blackpool Parade, Blackpool Parade, Bournemouth Parade, Bridlington Parade, Brighton Parade, Colwyn Parade, Douglas Parade, Eastbourne Parade, Hastings Parade, Marine Drive, Morcambe Parade, Penzance Parade, Rhyl Parade, Scarborough Parade, Skegness Parade, Southend Parade, Southport Parade and Torquay Parade.
Named after: Lukes Lane - a lane that runs south from Monkton Lane, over the old ‘Cokey’s Bridge’, which some referred to as ‘Spuggie’s Bridge’, then comes out on Mill Lane, near the Leam Lane Roundabout (A194).
Many years ago I heard that Hebburn Council bought/leased this land from Jarrow, to build temporary NE31 houses upon.
