Mac sounds a bit like a few of the journeys my husband and I made about 10 days ago when we were up visiting my mother who still lives in Bill Quay. We made the visit to the Quayside, they were just preparing for the Exhibition of the North East or whatever it is called, we had lunch down by the Quayside, then as there were lots of road closures we walked over the Millenium Bridge to pick up a taxi on the other side, looking over the river to the Newcastle Quayside was such a pleasure, I was trying to remember how the Quayside used to be in the 50's & 60's? |
We also made the drive from Seaburn along the coast road through South Shields then carried on through the Riverside Road, it seems to me that with a bit more imagination and I suppose money, South Shields and the surrounding coastal areas could be really nice, I noticed that the Marsden Grotto is now some kind of 'up market' restaurant, such a lovely location hope it does well.
Heworth roundabout has improved so much now so I guess it was worth the upset it caused for 6 months. Yes I to am proud of my North Eastern heritage, County Durham & Northumberland still rank as some of the loveliest areas in the UK, and yes the North East is still home and more than likely it will be where we will return.
