Yes Gordon but this probably goes back before 1974 which was when the forces merged to become Northumbria. The cars are my clue. One appears to have an L reg the other a K which were 71/72. I realise that that isn't conclusive but it has credibility. |
At that time Newcastle came under Northumberland Constabulary with the flat checked caps whilst Hebburn and Jarrow were still Durham Constabulary with helmets.
With your inside knowledge you may also be able to confirm that it was the old Newcastle Police Officers who continued to wear the flat checked hat after they became part of Nortumberland Constabulary in 1964.
John, if I am correct my theory also rules out Gateshead which was also Durham Constabulary.
Daft as it may seem I feel that I recognise the Officer as one who regulary policed the Matches at St James' Park.
