My son knew that one of my favourite pop stars in the 1950s was Eddie Cochran, so he texted today to say its on Facebook that it's Eddie's birthday today. He'd have been 80 but tragically he died in the UK whilst touring at just 21.
I think this record was probably my favourite, (Click the Link)
Can you remember Joe Brown & the Bruvvers? Joe is a great guitarist and in an interview a few years back he said he toured with Eddie Cochran and Eddie was doing stuff with the guitar he'd never seen before, so he learned how to do it from Eddie. I nearly went to see him at Newcastle the week before he got killed, but couldnt make it so John Menzies bought my ticket and went instead. I've always regretted not making it.
The tour I saw at the Empire consisted of Eddie Cochran. Gene Vincent. Joe Brown and Billy Fury. The same one that Michael saw. Sadly I didn't think Eddie was that good and Joe Brown stole the show. Eddie was killed when the car he was travelling in from Bristol to Heathrow collided with a lampost in Chippenham Wiltshire on the A4 (no M4 then of course). Gene vincent was seriously injured in the same accident.
