The Newtown St James Mall, was built in about 1970.
The cranes in today’s header photograph seem a little too close to be on the river; therefore, it is more likely that they are in the Newtown, to aid in the building of the Newtown high-rise flats: Durham, Westmorland, Cumberland and Northumberland, which were started by contractor, Stanley Miller in 1974. I remember walking up to the Newtown and watching the cranes lift the large sections into place - it just seems like yesterday.
