You will not find anyone more dedicated to his religion or care of the banner he holds than Bill Lee. I am sure that he will see that it has a good home when he is no longer able to look after it. He is personally responsible for for its survival in the first place and I know of no others of its kind that have been saved for posterity in Hebburn...but I hope I am wrong here. |
Now let us turn to museum collecting/disposal policies for which I have over 20 years experience. Depending on which museum you have donated your banner, it may never again see the light of day unless it fits with a planned future display. That is not to say that it will not be well cared for whilst it is retained in the collection. However, museum policy may not guarantee display or retention, you need to read the small print. Having said that, museums depend greatly on generous donations like yours. No doubt, there are countless antiquities in private hands which will one day find another good home one day. Suffice to say that, for the time being anyway, the one cared for by Bill Lee is in good and loving hands.
