The simple fact is… no matter how disagreeable or abhorrent abortion is to so many people, it simply isn’t something that can be legislated in a practical or judicious way without potentially endangering the life and health of all women, girls and their families.
Most everyone would agree that a late term abortion for no good medical reason would be particularly abhorrent… but that is not something that even happens, hardly ever if at all. Doctors already operate under a code of ethics, and no ethical doctor would even do such a procedure without a good reason, even if asked to do so, which isn’t likely to happen, either. No woman in her right mind would wait that long to ask for an abortion. And yet, many act as though those types of abortions would happen and therefore need to be controlled and outlawed while still allowing for less objectionable abortions.
The problem is… there is no clear line of right or wrong with the issue of abortion that can be adjudicated by a court of law in a timely, just or practical way. First there is no clear line of when a fetus becomes a person, or when the life and health of the mother and/or fetus is in jeopardy or peril. It simply isn’t something that can be legislated or decided by a court of law in a knowledgeable or timely fashion. It has to remain a decision between a woman and her doctor.
