Shame that Yuja Wang has let her personal life screw up her professional life, though it wasn't a total surprise. As sweet and charming as she can be (and seductive) there's a volatility to her that you'd never see in an interview. Tempting to bed, but a relationship?...uh..uh.
Back to instrumentalists. I think it's fair to say that our
view of Asians has included a sense of a people who function smoothly as a group, giving a larger psychic space to the group than to the individual. Based on that, I'm always surprised that so many wonderful soloists have been coming out of Asia while the orchestras, while improving slowly, have mostly sucked, often choking at the same time.
