Supernova fusion of gold depends on stellar mass
I understand GW170818 was the first actual observation of gold and other rare earths in a kilonova. That is why it was so sensationally discussed. It confirmed the theoretical process you describe. A supernova may be capable of fusing gold if sufficient mass exists. Fusion of iron is the turning point. Gold in the earth isn't elementally fused there. It accumulated there.
