I can't imagine trying to live on Social Security alone. I mean...
...I made pretty good money over my career as a Civil Engineer (some people on here insisted that I worked for the school system - lmao!). Since my Social Security is based on how much I made, I get a pretty good check every month - around $2,350. That wouldn't get me very far, what with a mortgage and utilities and groceries (now 100% higher than they were 4 years ago), gas (now 70% than it was 4 years ago), Life Insurance, Auto Insurance, Phone/TV, etc. Fortunately, I wasn't stupid enough to think that Social Security would be my ONLY source of income in retirement.
