I installed a solar hot water system on the roof of my 1837-era home back in 1980. It fed an 80-gallon surge tank which fed an 80-gallon electric hot water heater. The electric HWH kicked in only when necessary. The savings accrued all year long because the solar panels raised the temperature of the water in the surge tank well above the ambient temperature of the incoming water.
Will I install additional roof panels to generate electricity? I seriously doubt it. No incentive with gas heat, therma-pane storm windows and doors, and major floor and ceiling insulation.
Will I buy an EV? Never! They are nasty environmental hazards. My 2018 "Re-badged Chevy" has 40,000 flawless miles, is in pristine condition, and is good for at least another 5 years, so that will be 10 years without someone having to build another car and pollute the environment in the making. Meanwhile, the rest of my ponies and playtoys are in great shape. No incentive to replace them either.
Now you have it. How 'effin' "green" is that? Your "newer and better ideas" just create more junk and pollution on Earth.
