More has changed than just the season ... thinking about dolls >>>

When I started collecting Fashion Dolls, it seems to me that people were more excited about playing with them. I can remember the thrill of finding a fridge magnet that was a perfect doll sized mixer. Or something on a key ring that became a piece of luggage for a doll. While looking through some old doll magazines I became aware that the building of a 'world' for the dolls to inhabit, which I thought was so much fun, seems to have gone by the wayside. Now the trend seems to be to just stand a doll in front of a piece of cardboard and snap a photo. Is it because the "in" dolls are resin and everyone is terrified they'll break their very $$$$ toy? Has the 'selfie' destroyed the energy needed to create a 'scene' .... just snap it and post it mentality?
Anyone have thoughts on this? Honestly, if I didn't enjoy playing with my dolls and giving them "lives" .... well, I'd have a lot less 'stuff' in my house!
I do miss the 'old' days. It was fun.
